I recently had a very interesting conversation with one of our doctor clients. He mentioned that many patients today walk into consultations after doing research on Google or ChatGPT. His view was that this often wastes valuable time, since every case is unique and these tools cannot provide case-specific advice. Just having access to information doesn’t make someone an expert.
That was my cue. I asked him: How come many doctors today turn to Google or social media for financial planning advice? Doctors are experts in medicine. But simply having access to the internet and a mobile phone doesn’t make one an expert in financial planning.
I concluded by saying: the highest returns are always earned in one’s own profession. For everything else, it pays to rely on true expertise. In financial planning, that ideally means working with a fee-only financial planner.
Happy Financial Planning!
