Where Should NRIs Invest Today?

Over the last two years, Indian equity markets have delivered muted returns. Even SIPs in equity mutual funds, which are designed to reduce market-timing risk, have not generated the kind of returns investors had become accustomed to.

At the same time, the Indian Rupee has weakened against the US Dollar. Fixed deposits have delivered safe returns, while gold and silver have significantly outperformed. Several global markets, including the United States and parts of Asia, have also delivered strong performance.

Against this backdrop, Indian banks are expected to offer attractive FCNR deposit rates in USD to NRIs. Naturally, many investors are asking the same question:

"Where should I invest my money now?"

The answer is never straightforward because every investor's circumstances, goals, risk appetite and time horizon are different.

However, one principle remains constant:

Financial markets do not reward investors based on past performance. They reward investors based on future potential.

Therefore, investment decisions should not be driven by FOMO (Fear of Missing Out).

At Naveen Rego Capital, we avoid aggressively increasing allocations to asset classes simply because they have performed exceptionally well in the recent past. Instead, we follow a disciplined asset allocation framework.

Consider a typical NRI investor. A weaker Rupee allows the investor to convert foreign currency into a larger amount of Indian Rupees. If Indian equities are simultaneously trading below their previous highs, the investor is effectively able to acquire more Indian assets for the same amount of foreign currency.

This combination often creates an attractive long-term entry opportunity, provided the investor has the patience and risk tolerance required for equity investing.

For conservative investors seeking stability and predictable returns, FCNR deposits may continue to play an important role in the portfolio.

For investors seeking inflation-beating, long-term wealth creation, Indian equities—either through carefully selected stocks or diversified equity mutual funds—remain one of the most effective asset classes.

The key is not choosing one asset class over another. The key is constructing a portfolio that balances growth, stability, taxation and risk management.

At Naveen Rego Capital, we do not follow the herd. We build portfolios through a disciplined, process-driven approach designed to help investors navigate changing market conditions while staying focused on their long-term goals.

If you are an NRI looking for professional guidance to grow and compound your wealth, we would be happy to assist.

Happy Financial Planning!
